Essential Travel Tips

As countries begin to take additional security measures to welcome visitors again and people start thinking about travel again, there are many things to consider.

Not everyone is ready to travel, but people have to make important trips.

The Canadian government still has a travel advisory regarding non-essential travel outside of Canada.

Basic Travel Tips

Dave and I like to travel. This is our business, and when the time comes, we will return to the plane, ready to explore. Canada currently imposes a mandatory 14-day quarantine on entry into the country. So if you are traveling, this should be taken into account when planning. You can leave the house no earlier than two weeks after your return.

But the world understands that there are important reasons to travel. Months have passed since the start of the recent times and, for various reasons, people have to get back on the plane. I hope we will all follow your example soon!

If you have to leave the country, it is useful to know that the Canadian Aviation Safety Agency (Casta) has taken a number of measures to make your security check as safe and reliable as possible.

Here are some tips to follow when you have important trips coming up.

People traveling by plane to and from Canada must wear their own face masks.

basic travel tips

By now, we are all used to wearing a face mask.

In fact, I have a lot of matching outfits that need to be washed regularly, so when I walk into the store, I always have a fresh one.

In flight, the faceplates have stricter rules than just going to the Sobey store for shopping.

Facial bandages should cover the nose and mouth, consist of at least two layers of tightly woven fabric (for example, cotton or linen) and be properly attached to the head.

Before entering the checkpoint, the mask must be put on the mouth and nose.

Before flying, be sure to read the Canadian Health Agency’s recommendations on wearing a face mask. But here are some tips.

Non-medical face masks should

provides easy breathing

fits securely to the head with clasps or earrings

retains its shape after washing and drying

change as soon as possible if it is wet or dirty

be comfortable and do not require frequent adjustments

consist of at least 2 layers of dense fabric (for example, cotton or linen)

be large enough to completely and comfortably cover your nose and mouth without gaps.

Hand washing and disinfection

We learned early on that the best protection against recent time is to wash your hands regularly. We do not leave the house without hand sanitizer.

The good news is that even though there is hand sanitizer near airport checkpoints, you can now carry a 12-ounce (355 ml) bottle of hand sanitizer in your carry-on luggage.

That’s 255 ml (8.6 oz) more than the usual fluid intake limits. To look for other restrictions on fluid intake or to refresh your memory, you can read the recommendations here.

Temperature control

There are several airports in Canada where you must pass a temperature check before entering the checkpoint.

You cannot enter if your temperature is above 38 degrees Celsius. (100.4 Fahrenheit.)

Temperature checks are mandatory at the 15 busiest airports in the country. You can find the full List of updates here.

The current participating airports are Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Montreal,

In addition, St.John’s, Halifax, Quebec, Ottawa, Toronto-Billy Bishop, Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Kelowna and Victoria.

You should also note that if you develop symptoms of illness such as coughing or difficulty breathing, you must leave the checkpoint.

How to pass the control at the airport

Even the queue has changed after recent time. In the queue, you must maintain a distance of two meters from other passengers.

Do not hand over your documents to the security guard, but keep your own electronic or printed boarding pass or other documents while they are scanned.

When traveling around the country, the same rules apply. You have your temperature checked (if you are leaving from one of the 15 airports), you must put on a face mask, keep your distance and keep all your documents.

Aviation is an essential service. Throughout the recent times, they made sure that people and goods were delivered where they needed to be.

Casta has taken all possible measures to ensure the safe operation of air transport. So when you start traveling again, you can be sure that all measures have been taken to ensure a safe and happy flight.
